PDO is an exploration and production Company, owned by: Oman Government: 60% Shell: 34%

PDO staff number more than 4,500 and over 12,000 contractors who help keep PDO's operations running smoothly.

  • Working as a dedicated Commissioning Coordinator for the Shell projects.
  • Lead planning, preparation, and execution of commissioning activities primarily for front-end phases, but goes all the way to execution, start-up, handover, and initial operation support, often for multiple concurrent projects, including major projects accordance with PDO procedures & processes.
  • Manage, develop and guide PDO and Contractors on CSU deliverables for Front End stage.
  • Reviewing, commenting & approving commissioning documentation and procedures. Maintain a forward view of resourcing requirements for assigned projects and provide as input to wider departmental plans.
  • Achieve full alignment with the Commissioning Execution Team Leads regarding individual project commissioning & start-up strategy and plans.
  • Interfacing with discipline Engineers, Vendors and Contractors for Technical issues, Scheduling, Construction, Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning, Start up, Performance Tests and Handover to asset.
  • Conduct regular engagements with Project Team and Asset Operations stakeholders to ensure alignment regarding individual project commissioning & start-up strategy and plans.
  • Monitor and regularly report status of activities, highlighting key risks and opportunities.
  • Contribute to department-wide thinking in relation to effective application of commissioning and start-up readiness, ‘flawless project delivery’ and ‘project-to-asset’ transfer processes.

QAFAC is producing 1830 tons of MTBE (Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether) per day. The Methanol plant is designed to produce 3000 metric tons per day of US Federal Grade AA methanol. The Company commenced operations in 1999.

  • Provide technical direction to Planner, lead Technicians/Technicians and local Trainees, as required for the troubleshooting of instrumentation issues pertaining to process control, instrument systems, and analyzer systems, to ensure Safety, Production, Maintenance, and Reliability goals are met.
  • Preparing, reviewing Failure/Incident Reports. Investigate equipment failures and issue change recommendations to eliminate further occurrences. Improvement of instrument reliability.
  • Preparation of reports, co-ordination with internal departments and to apprise management of the progress, problems and assist in critical decision-making.
  • Fault finding and Maintenance on Allen Bradley SLC 500, PLC programming software Logix5000. Programming, editing, saving, uploading, downloading, and restoring SLC 500 ladder logic programs.
  • Implementation of Preventive maintenance system of all instrumentation in the plant, monitor closely and review PM frequency to improve the routine preventive maintenance program.
  • Development, implementation of SOP. Monitor and revise instrument Service/Repair/ Calibration procedures.
  • Participate in PMR’s HAZOP study, risk assessment and audit activities.
  • Provide training to Qatari nationals (workplace learning) as well as to newly hired personnel.
  • Development & implementation of competency-based training & development programs.
  • Preparation of material requisitions input and evaluation of offers. To ensure the availability of adequate tools, equipment, spare parts, test gear and manpower to perform all instrument maintenance activities.

Worked as an Instrument section Head from Mar-2007 to Dec-2007

  • Turnaround 2007: QAFAC utilized its own internal resources and successfully carried out the largest ever maintenance turnaround in the history of the company, without the presence of EPC contractor.

Successfully completed major 2007 turn around. I was responsible for all Instrument activities during TA-2007(Shut down Planning, Materials, Man powers, OEM services, Service/Repair, Requisitioning, Bids Evaluations, executing the below mentioned instrument activities and on time start up.

  • Replaced DRFD units with Woodward SPC controller with redundant LVDT on Syn. gas & Circulator Dresser-Rand Compressors. Unit was configured by Instrument QAFAC.
  • Received the mounting kit for one EHPC cylinder, 2nd was fabricated in house.
  • Replaced hydraulic T&T valve with new pneumatic operated valve.
  • All MMS Bentley Nevada system probes scale factors checking, complete loop checking (thrust, vibration, temp) monitors calibration. (4 compressor, ID Fan, 2 BFW Pumps)
  • Replaced the positioners with Intelligent advance diagnostic positioners (total 58)
  • Repair/Service of Orbit valves (84), Oleflex/ CCR Neles valves (17), Valtek valves, OT valve, Nippon Fisher valves (57) Boiler’s masoneilan valves leakage test valves service and sand blasting & painting.
  • Critical instrument loops 1500 tags PM job was carried out and completed on time.
  • All plants PSV valves servicing, refurbished, tested, painted & certified.

Participation in HAZOP and SIL Classification studies.

HAZOP study was done for the MTBE, Methanol and utilities plants, which includes Oleflex/CCR, ORU, RED, DIB, Cold Box, Cl2 unit, Heaters, Compressors, Package Boilers, DM plant, Nitrogen plant, Instrument air system, sea water system with hypo chlorination package, product tanks with jetty and waste treatment units (oily water, bio filter, and sanitary treatment). Apart from these units failure mode analysis was done for emergency power, DCS and PLC system.

  • Upgrading of F & G system to Honeywell XLS3000 Intelligent Fire & Gas Systems, Safety Manager. Interface to the Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI), Fire Safety Manager Graphical Workstations.
  • Upgrading Bentley Nevada 3300 series Machine Protection System to Bentley Nevada 3500 series. Upgrading CCC AS controller to Series 3++Controller, with updated operator interface, Train view.
  • Supervised, co-ordinate and review construction phase, status of testing and punch listing the work with EPC contractor (CHIYODA)Supervise commissioning and start-up activities on the projects. Actively participated during Commissioning and Startup of Meoh, MTBE& UTILITY plants.
